My Story

TIRED. RUN-DOWN. UNISPIRED.

These would be three words by which I would have described myself a few years ago.

Having been active in sports all my life, I thought I was in excellent physical health. But I got a wakeup call when the A1C level on my routine lab screening revealed that I was 'pre-diabetic'. I didn't even have a primary care doctor at the time. When I got a doctor and made an appointment with him, he asked me what my diet was like. I told him I ate whatever I wanted. I was kidding myself, thinking I was healthy. I drank three or four cans of soda and literally lived on cookies, candy and ice cream. He said 'not anymore'.  He then told me he was going to give me three months to get my A1C down, otherwise he was going to start me on the diabetes medication, Metformin. Diabetes runs in my family and my dad has it, so I was, more of less, scared into action. I knew I needed to change my habits to improve my health for the better.  Besides being 30 pounds overweight, I was lacking both energy and motivation. I was working nights at my job at the time and literally felt like a zombie most days. I was irritable, restless and discontent and was often grumpy with everybody I came in contact with. With middle age upon me, it was a great time to take a self-assessment of where I was at in my life and what I was going to do with the life I had still to live. I had to honestly admit that I really didn't like the person I had become and wanted to be better, for myself and for those who were important in my life.

I had to DO something.

I was ready to make a CHANGE!

Me then, at the height of my gluttony...devouring a one pound Reese's peanut butter cup.

But HOW???

Thus began my personal wellness journey. The problem was, I didn't know where to turn, in order to get help along my path. The result was me doing my own research online, via podcasts, following different authorities on social media and by reading countless books on the subjects of physical, emotional and spiritual health.  I was able to learn healthy eating habits and take measures to control my blood sugars. I learned to prioritize sleep and got off of the night shift. I got down to my ideal body weight and brought my A1C back to a normal level. I felt more youthful and energetic than I had in years and felt like I was better able to show up for my family and loved ones. My biggest breakthrough came when I stumbled upon the Chopra program, which considers the mind, body and spirit in achieving total well-being. There, I learned that mindfulness is that key the unlocks the door to a healthier, happier, harmonious life. By turning within, I found I could tap into my own intuition and use it as my guide.

Me now. Living out the 'four intentions': a joyful energetic body, a loving compassionate heart, a reflective alert mind and a lightness of being!

ENERGETIC. MOTIVATED. INSPIRED.

These are three words I would describe myself today. While I began the program to just help myself, I soon became aware of an inner calling to help others on their own path. I truly believe it's my Purpose. I decided to become certified through Chopra, a very well-respected name in the wellness industry, to teach others better awareness through meditation, better health by practicing Ayurvedic lifestyle and to help them, through the coaching process, to find the answers within themselves to who they really are, what they really want and what is their true Purpose. That is why I started Inspired Well-being...to help others to realize/remember their true selves and have total well-being.
